2018 Baltimore Comic Con EXCLUSIVE: Dinco D Talks Con Culture & Rob Stull Collab
Though many enjoy the works of artists such as Drake, Nicki Minaj, or Kendrick Lamar, they likely would not have the influence they hold now without the trail-blazing efforts of artists like Dinco D. Getting his start with with the Leaders of The New School (LONS) - alongside group members Busta Rhymes (yes, that Busta Rhymes) and Charlie Brown - at the burgeoning golden era of hip hop, Dinco got his first break opening for Public Enemy. Not long afterwards, the three Uniondale, Long Island boys of LONS were soon topping the charts with hits like What's Next, Case of that PTA, and Scenario with A Tribe Called Quest. Their debut album reached #66 on the Billboard charts and #15 in the R&B/Hip Hop categories; in fact, some of their singles reached #1 on the hip hop charts.
In the early 90's, Dinco D and LONS were all over mainstream media, making appearances on Arsenio Hall, Yo MTV RAPS, and countless other prime-time television appearances. Though the group eventually split off to pursue solo careers in the mid 90s, Dinco, Charlie, and Busta have reunited for select performances, like the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival in 2012.
At this year's Baltimore Comic Con, I sat down with the music artist to not only talk comics, but to also discuss creator-owned collaboration project with veteran comics artist Rob Stull. Check it out below!
